This is a follow up from the ‘Who Am I’ self-portrait one year on. I wanted to paint a happier self-portrait, but that didn’t happen. Although the mind desperately wanted to move on my body was still recovering from the harsh treatment of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Life was still challenging and my energy was affected for many years after. These portraits here to remind myself how far I have come from those dark days and to have a connection with the creativity and love that was always in there. I personally feel that at the end of any adversity there is a gift – mine was that I could paint portraits.
